My son has ADHD. There I said it.
His brain, his hands, his mouth, are always thinking and moving and talking. Think of the energizer bunny, that's Jackson.
ADHD is not an excuse for my son. It is real. Somewhere along the way the wires in that beautiful brain of his became jumbled and he was given an extra shot of espresso. That extra shot can be helpful or hurtful.
- Loves art and cooking-Can pay attention to details. Loves to grocery shop with me.
- Sports practices-Dive for cover! Being in a gym with 20+ kids and 20+ basketballs is distracting. I don't remember the number of times I say his name to or get about 6 inches from his face to help him focus.
- Swimming pool-The cool water and amazing swim coaches make this a success!
- Brothers-Being the middle is not easy.
- Homework and Reading-Oye!
- Friends-can be tricky. Thankful for friends and parents who "get him."
- Cub Scouts-A great activity for just him.
I am his safety net, that's what I call myself. I wake up every day praying that the morning will go smoothly. Quickly getting to JJ to remind him to be a nice big brother and to not instigate or be funny. Asking Jackson what he wants for breakfast, is your basketball bag packed, where are your library books, put your jacket on, brush your teeth, AHHHHH!!
Jackson is hopeful with me. And I am hopeful with Jackson.
Patience. Just a little patience.
